Week 1

hello all. so this is my first attempt at a blog and i'd love to have a ton of cool pictures and graphics and links and all that, but a) i don't have time, and b) i can't get it to work yet. so here's some words.

i currently sit in a suburb in virginia, which is the closest internet hub to the camp where i'm working this summer. i arrived on sunday to camp fraser and have been enjoying the outdoors (though not the bugs, which make me wonder if i put out some kind of insect-attracting pheromone because they are ON me). i have been playing in the trees as i trained for 3 days to get certified to facilitate high and low ropes at the camp, and the rest of the time we've been trying to clean and get camp ready, which includes mulching all the ropes courses with wood chips we must lug long distances. i'm pretty sure my legs are twice the size they were when most of you last saw me...today we had a river day on the potomac river, which included erecting a barge on top of two canoes which we lugged down to the river, and paddling out to a little island. i think george (washington, that is) would have approved.

besides those things, i've tried to sneak in time to play my new guitar. i play really softly to make myself feel better about my playing abilities, and i really love it! even now as i type i can't really feel my finger tips and it's awesome.

our team is really great and i think we've gotten along really well so far. there's 7 girls and one guy. yep, one guy. in fact, he calls himself "the guy." i'm very encouraged by working with them and believe the Lord is preparing us for a great summer. i miss everyone a lot, but God is so gracious in making me very content here where i am at this point in life. the time leading up to leaving school was emotionally difficult for me and i was concerned that this longing to stay and have life stay the same would interfere with me truly being here where the Lord has put me for this season, but i see that thus far, He is choosing to make me at ease where i am. i also have the joy of having my compadre, kristen, here which, as my grandmama says, makes me "real satisfied."

so, to share my feelings after almost completing my first post on my blog, i would like to say that things like this always make me feel like a narcissist/very dull person. i am a paradox, basically. but basically, i decided to do this because i'm not too keen on mass emails but still wanted the people i love to know what is going on with me. i only have internet access on weekends, so updates will be spread out, but hopefully i will figure this whole thing out and get some more pictures up.

i love and cherish you all in my life.

jen

here's my first try with photos:

the sleeping arrangements here are just not up to par with what i'm used to...

...kristen apparently has no problem, though.

(this one's for brian sharon. :) that's a green pea, fyi)

hey jen,
feefs here (like both of them)... your pictures were inspiring. i wish kristen had that wierdo blanket she carries around with her... ryry wishes that too. well, eric and emily's wedding was pretty cool but we missed you guys. they had a 20 foot choclate fountain. after church this morning we went to classic panera. brian and ricky met... brian's first words were "hey, your that guy who always twirls my girlfriend around". well, we appreciated the green pea in the picture. peace out. blog more soon. love, feefs

Jen, do you think you'll drop any kids out of the tress this summer? You should spend your time worrying about it.

The feefs are right - we missed you guys last night. We were way short on girls, despite the fact that Catherine Remington was more than eager to dance.

Also, I figured it out. YOU're obsessed with Kristen.

Talk soon,
Patrick

you're a trip... I'm sorry tht camps not up to Disney Princess standards... but hey, if Ariel could get used to living outside of water (when you would think that her legs would have atropheed) then you could probably get used to this. here's a hint... get Kristen to take the pea out. :) I miss you, and hope everything is going great.

yo! i like your blog yenni-fer. and i miss our times in the office stressed out till we're red in the face. remember?...oh im glad to be in the summer, right! i'd be careful on the high ropes girly, cause they are dangerous. im almost forgot, you fearless:) If you want to know how much of a friend I am, I had to sign up for this whole blog thingy just so i could leave you this messagey. You are in my prayers, and I hope you keep having a Christ-touched summer! Remember that no day on earth is a wasted day, even if it is a quite nothing day, cause thats time spent with the ultimate Satisfier. Peace and care,
